An Asset-Based Approach to Working with International Students

Sep 30 • 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm

International students bring a plethora of strengths and diverse perspectives to their classrooms and the higher education ecosystem in general. These include their ability to adapt quickly to new environments (navigational asset) and their ability to transition between different languages smoothly (linguistic asset), among others.

This workshop presents a model that characterizes international students’ strengths, helping you recognize how and why an asset-based approach fosters inclusivity in academic environments. You will also engage in identifying in-the-moment interactions between faculty and students, with the goal of developing a repertoire of signals for recognizing international students’ empowerment in learning when asset-based teaching moves are employed during group work.

This session is only open to Northeastern University students, staff, and educators. Please use your Northeastern email when registering.
