How can educators reduce unnecessary stress and distress associated with assignments, presentations, and exams in order to ensure that assessments are as accurate and equitable as possible? In this workshop, we will discuss the main principles of trauma-informed pedagogy and how adopting this approach in your teaching can support student success. In particular, we will brainstorm ways to re-design traditional course assessments using a trauma-informed approach and to scaffold students’ abilities to engage with high-stakes assessments. To prepare for our conversation, you should choose a course and an assessment that you would like to rethink.
