Self-Paced Modules: Planning and Facilitating Engaging Online Discussions in Canvas

May 1 — May 31

Discussion forums can help online learners actively process key course ideas and increase their sense of community belonging. This approach, sometimes referred to as asynchronous learning, works especially well in situations where learners have low bandwidth and are accessing the course from a range of time zones. Four dimensions are essential to the success of an online discussion: purpose in relation to the course, student engagement, guided conversation, and substantial value. These self-paced modules  explore the four dimensions and provide concrete examples of discussion formats across a range of disciplines.

Ready to explore the modules? To self-enroll in the Canvas course, follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to the “Planning and Facilitating Engaging Online Discussions in Canvas” course in Canvas.
  2. Click the red Enroll in Course button in the upper right corner of the page. Click Go to the Course, and you’re in!

This session is open to Northeastern University educators who are interested in learning more about asynchronous, online discussion forums. You cannot be enrolled in the course without Northeastern credentials.

[Session format: Self-paced, asynchronous online modules]
