I began incorporating generative AI into my teaching practices in March of 2023 because I was excited about the opportunity to innovate. However, I also had a sense that this technology would really change the nature of teaching and learning, so I needed to understand it myself in order to prepare students for an AI-enhanced world.

As an instructor, AI tools have been very helpful to me in terms of quickly customizing materials for class. For students, I see that transparent discussions and collaborative in-class uses of generative AI can help prepare them for responsible use.

The best advice I can give is to dive in! Our students are using generative AI, so we need to as well. I have also found it incredibly helpful to do this alongside colleagues with whom I can compare ideas and strategies.
