Building Class Community in Difficult Times

Dec 6 • 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm

Current and ongoing events can impact the quality of learning in a course, and it is important to consider all those involved—including ourselves—as whole people. How can we support our learners in difficult and complex times in ways that recognize our own personal needs, values, course content, and pedagogical approaches? How can we manage, as appropriate, polarized discourse should it arise? In this workshop, you will explore options for getting your course off to a good start even in conflicted contexts: establishing norms that support a class climate conducive to learning, ensuring that classroom discussion stays grounded in course goals, and averting unproductive discourse.

This session is only open to Northeastern University students, staff, and educators. Please use your Northeastern email when registering.
