What Factors Contribute to a High Quality Online Course?

CATLR's Online Course Design Rubric

Many of the factors that make an online course effective are the same as those that make a face-to-face course effective – clear objectives and expectations, relevant content, engaging assignments, and opportunities to connect meaningfully with peers and the instructors. Of course, many of these things are done differently online than in a classroom.

CATLR’s Online Course Design Learning Potential Rubric is designed to help faculty operationalize evidence-based learning principles in online courses. The rubric is meant to be used for formative assessment to give faculty an indication of areas strength and suggestions for improvement.
