I engage students in the process so the power and problem solving are shared amongst us all as we decide what to do and what not to do with this emerging technology.

Generative AI has created upheaval in the world of writing pedagogy, so we’re all trying to figure it out every day as the technology changes. I want to help students see that the technology is there to support their writing—not to replace it—and that it can be really good at some things, while the students themselves are better at other things. I want to help the students be intentional about the type of writing experience they want to have in their lives and to use the technologies to supplement that.
My advice to educators figuring out how to implement AI into their teaching practice is that you don’t have to have it all figured out before you start. We have to work with a sense of adequate working knowledge, but not complete expertise.
