Law faculty generally–and in my department in particular–give extensive written feedback on student writing assignments. Grading has long been viewed as a complex task in law teaching, and I wanted to find a way to make it more efficient without sacrificing the quality of feedback students receive. By using Claude to help create a detailed grading rubric based on my own past feedback and priorities, I found I could streamline and standardize my grading while still reflecting the criteria that matter most to me. My hope is that this approach is replicable and that other faculty who might not otherwise experiment with AI tools could use a similar process to save time on their own grading and provide more useful, more consistent feedback to their students.
