Like any tool, AI has its place and purpose. The key is understanding when it adds value and when human expertise is irreplaceable.

AI is particularly useful to me as a thought partner and efficiency enhancer. I use it to generate multiple versions of discussion prompts or to brainstorm ethical dilemmas or unexpected complications to enrich case studies and class discussions. AI helps to quickly produce initial drafts for materials like rubrics or assignment instructions. The goal is not to replace my expertise or judgment, but instead to handle routine tasks more efficiently so I can focus on what matters most: fostering critical thinking, building relationships with students, and addressing the complex, nuanced questions that require my experience. Ultimately, we cannot address important concerns about AI, including ethics, academic integrity, and writing thoughtful AI policies, without engaging with and understanding it.
