We have to make this learning enjoyable and personal so they will appreciate the importance of not leaning too heavily on AI to do that thinking for you. ‘I don’t care what it thinks,’ I tell them, ‘I want to know what you think.’

Because GenAI can write, I often remind students that one of the goals of higher education is to help you discover your own voice. Science isn’t science without the communication at the end. You have to make a convincing case that your questions are meaningful and the results are helpful. This is the basis on which we build our work and also strengthen our competitiveness in an already competitive workplace. So, increasingly in all my writing assignments, I encourage students to write in their own voice.
